Začek McVay

In 2004, Victory Gardens announced the purchase of the historic Biograph Theater. The Theater was renovated by Daniel P. Coffey who also designed the mainstage.

The mainstage is named the Začek McVay Theater after longtime Artistic Director Dennis Začek and former Managing Director Marcelle McVay.

The Začek McVay is a procscenium-thrust stage with an intimate feel seating 299. The last row is a mere 45 feet from the stage.

The new stage is 30 feet deep and 32 feet wide, with 16 feet of wing space on either side. There is an 8-foot trap space below the stage.
