A NEW MONTHLY EVENT SERIES IS A FEAST FOR THE SENSES

Now entering its first full season, Chicago Public Radio Presents... is a monthly event series that brings public radio fans together to treat the senses to a variety of engaging, entertaining performances. From graffiti artists to global activism, Chicago Public Radio Presents... has an event that is sure to suit your tastes, and in September, October, November, January, and June Chicago Public Radio Presents... will take place at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater.


Individual tickets for each event are $15, with two noted exceptions. Chicago Public Radio members and Victory Gardens season subscribers (promotional code = VG) receive a 20% discount.

October 19: A Reading by Nathaniel Rich
Join us as Stop Smiling magazine hosts Nathaniel Rich, senior editor of The Paris Review, to read from his celebrated first novel, The Mayor's Tongue.  A talkback with Jonathan Messinger, Book Review Editor for Time Out Chicago, will follow the reading along with a showing of the Constance Eakins book jacket project.

November 7, 9: Cabaret, Cabaret! New Musicals, New Writers
You have two chances to join us for this one-of-a-kind showcase of new work emerging on Chicago stages this season and new talent emerging in the world of musical theater at large.  Featuring work from Theater Building Chicago, Bohemian Theatre Ensemble, Victory Gardens Theater, Annoyance Productions, Bare Boned Theatre, American Theater Company, and more.

December 14: An Afternoon with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
Take part in this special afternoon, when you can rotate through a variety of introductory level classes in hip-hop, jazz, modern, tap and African dance, plus participate in discussions with current artistic staff including Claire Bataille, founding member of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.

January 25: A Winter Block Party for Chicago's Hip-Hop Arts
This day long event begins with a free "Winter Block Party," celebrating Chicago's hip-hop arts-- featuring a live paiting by Revise CMW, one of Chicago's finest graffiti artists.  Then in the evening, sit down with us as Chicago-born William "Upski" Wimsatt is joined by Chicago Tribune columnist Rick Kogan for a conversation about the State of Society as our newest President takes office.

February 13: UniVerse of Free Expression:  A Celebration of International Poetry
An historic celebration of internationally accclaimed poets and visionaries--hosted by UniVerse of Poetry--illuminating the wisdom and triumphs of the human spirit.  With readings by Kwame Dawes, Fady Joudah, Ilya Kaminsky, and Ofelia Zepeda, poetry films by Franceso Levato, Ram Devineni and Kwame Dawes, and a celebratory remembrance of Nadia Anjoman.

March 28: Chicago’s First "Third Coast Filmless Festival"
Come out for the Third Coast Filmless Festival, a celebration of storytelling, sound and the art of listening.  Join other radio fans who will gather in darkened theaters to hear unforgettable audio documentaries, and to meet some of the top producers from the US and beyond.  Note:  All-day passes for this event will be $25/day; visit the event listing for ticketing details.

April 25: Global Activism Expo 2009 *FREE event
Last year, nearly 900 gathered for this unique event--join us again this year for this remarkable celebration, and this year it's FREE, complete with food, music and Global Activists, all featured guests of Worldview's Global Activism Series.  Learn more about how one person can indeed make a difference.

May 30: Hubs & Spokes: Threading the Wheels of Chicago’s Bike Culture
Between the personal and the political, the practical and the philosophical, the working bikes and the racing bikes, Chicago's cycling culture spans myriad reasons, ideologies, and neighborhoods.  Join us to hear a wide range of cycling stories and meditiations--and contribute your own!

June 14: This American Life
Turning off the microphones (at least to a broadcast audience), join one of the producers from this award-winning staff as they return to Chicago for an intimate evening, interviewing a special guest live on stage.
