Kevin Coval's EVERYDAY PEOPLE

Written and Performed by
Kevin Coval

Four-time HBO Def Poet Kevin Coval, founder of Louder Than a Bomb: The Chicago Teen Poetry Festival, will celebrate the debut of his newest book of poems, Everyday People, at official book release events on Thursday, July 31 and Friday, August 1 at 7:30pm at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago. Coval, recently featured on the cover of the Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine and named one of Chicago's most eligible singles by Chicago Magazine, will perform selected poems from his new book, Everyday People. Teen performers from Louder Than A Bomb will perform with Coval, and both nights will be followed by talk-backs and post-show receptions featuring the Tim Lincoln Trio.

Kevin Coval's Everyday People is presented as part of Victory Gardens' new Fresh Squeezed series, a series of late night shows, out-of-the-box performances and edgy social events targeting younger, cutlurally adventurous audiences. The July 31 reading will be hosted by Natalie Moore of Chicago Public Radio, and the August 1 talk-back will be moderated by Chicago Tribune's Rick Kogan.

Tickets prices range from $15, which includes a free CD performed by Kevin to $25, which includes the CD and a copy of Everyday People. Tickets can be purchased here or by calling the Victory Gardens Box Office at (773) 871-3000.

Praise ranges from Studs Terkel, "In Coval's voice is our hope for a new world for peace, grace and beauty," to Mos Def, "This is one of my favorite poets," to Michael Eric Dyson, "...raw, straight no chaser. That's the real lethal weapon right there," to 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Kathy Kelly, author of Other Lands Have Dreams: From Baghdad to Pekin Prison, "Kevin Coval wields the spoken word and his brilliant social imaginings into irresistible invitations to build a better world."
