Blindfaith Theatre Songs and Writings by Woody Guthrie Conceived and Adapted by Peter Glazer
An exuberant musical celebration of America, Woody Guthrie's American Song tells the life of the rambling folk singer through his words and music. From the dust storms of Texas to the promised land of California to the streets of New York City, Guthrie spins the tale of the land that 'was made for you and me.' The play has the foot-stompin', roof-raisin', toe-tappin' heart-breakin', soul-soarin' musical journey of Woody Guthrie down highways, rail lines and back roads straight into the heart of America.
Directed by Nicolas Minas (of Blindfaith's GOREY STORIES, STAND-UP TRAGEDY and LORD BUTTERSCOTCH AND THE CURSE OF THE DARKWATER PHANTOM) and music directed by Shaun Whitley (appearing in Provision's SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN) this production is the non-equity Chicago premiere thereby allowing for a mix of folk singers, story tellers and actors all on stage celebrating the life of a man whose music was as instrumental to this country's moral development as King's marches and Kennedy's leadership style. This summer marks the 20th anniversary of the original production 15 years since it closed at the Briar Street Theatre in Chicago.
