Alexander Technique Made Practical

Learn about your body’s structure and movement possibilities while building practical skills to enhance health, poise, and freedom from pain while in movement. The Alexander Technique (AT) is a proven, safe, self-care method to stop pain, stress and muscular tension caused by everyday misuse of the body. In this introductory course through gentle guiding touch, the spoken word, and studied movement, the instructor will assist participants in changing their personal quality of movement in keeping with their body’s design.

The Alexander Technique has a distinction from other movement techniques or therapies in that is it not an exercise program but it is an educational method which can be applied to any movement allowing the student to move with greater safety, less strain, and physical pain. Once the student has acquired the skills of the AT, they can then apply the skills to other movement techniques such as Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Dance, or a favorite sport. Classes will include centering work, experiential anatomy, challenging movement games and applying the technique to playing an instrument, playing a role, or singing a song. Bring a yoga mat, wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to have fun. From 6:30 to 8:00 PM on four Monday- June 23 & 30, July 7 & 14, 2008.
