Drama in the Schools

Drama in the Schools is Victory Gardens’ Arts Integration Program, where visiting artists work in partnership with teachers to try different ways of learning. By using the arts discipline, a whole new world is opened up for students, teaching them, among other things, concentration, inductive and deductive reasoning, teamwork self esteem and problem solving. We offer program units emphasizing: Character, Plot, Storytelling, and The Classics (from Greek Tragedy to Epics to Shakespeare). Teachers and artists work together to explore alternative teaching methods to enhance their curricula, thereby enriching the students learning experience as well as exposing them to the arts at large. The units are easily adaptable to most curricula, and work best when the artist and the teacher are able to work on multiple units throughout the school year, creating continuity with the students, and a real partnership with the artist and the teacher.
