A WONDER IN MY SOUL: DAMN GOOD HAIR
Thursday, February 2 @ 7:00pm
Marcus Gardley’s A Wonder in My Soul chronicles the lives of two Black women from The Great Migration to the 2008 election. After their friendship, the thing that most unites them is their passion for Black hair. The Black beauty shop experience is an integral part in telling the history of Black women in the US. From the notable self-made entrepreneur Madam CJ Walker, who rose to fame selling Black beauty products, to the resurgence of Black natural hair during The Civil Rights movement, hair is a key part of telling the Black woman’s experience. Join us in this conversation moderated by Jasmine Henri Jordan, Victory Gardens’ Audience Development Manager, with Black beauty salon owners and members of the cast as they discuss the history, cultural impact, and their own relationship with Black hair.
