AUDITIONS

Victory Gardens holds general auditions for both Equity and non-equity members each year.

EQUITY ACTORS (MEMBERS OF ACTORS’ EQUITY ASSOCIATION)

Equity auditions are held each Spring. Once Equity auditions are announced, appointments can be made appointments directly through the Chicago Equity office. Victory Gardens does not schedule appointments. For more information contact the Chicago AEA office.

NON-EQUITY ACTORS

Non-AEA Generals are held each Spring. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. If we are interested in seeing you for generals we will reach out directly.

Headshots and resumes are accepted on a rolling basis. Please submit via email, casting@victorygardens.org, file title must contain your full name. Headshots/resumes are also accepted via mail.

OUT-OF-TOWN ACTORS

Victory Gardens is interested in auditioning actors who plan to relocate to Chicago in the near future. Our mission is to provide jobs for Chicago theater artists. If you are an Equity actor visiting from out of town and are planning on relocating, you are welcome to request an audition appointment by e-mail or inquiry letter. Auditions are scheduled on a time-available basis.

PLAY SUBMISSIONS

Victory Gardens Theater accepts full-length scripts year-round from literary agents and theater professionals with whom we have an existing professional relationship. Mailed copies of scripts are accepted, though we encourage electronic PDF or Word document submissions if at all possible. We do not accept unsolicited scripts.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes for Production Assistants for our current season. We are looking for incredibly motivated individuals to join our team. Employment would typically begin at tech for our first production and continue on a show to show basis. This position is paid hourly and performances are typically Wednesday through Sunday. A detailed Schedule will be provided upon request.

 

Production Assistant Requirements:

  • Stage management experience essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and even temperament.
  • Creating and maintaining proper backstage paperwork.
  • Multi-tasking in a fast paced environment.
  • Storing props and wardrobe and resetting scenery properly after each performance.
  • Participating in a light duty strike after the closing of the show.
  • Working with Stage Management on any other required tasks.

WARDROBE PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes for Production Assistants for our current season. We are looking for incredibly motivated individuals to join our team. Employment would typically begin at tech for our first production and continue on a show to show basis. This position is paid hourly and performances are typically Wednesday through Sunday.   • Experience with maintaining wigs helpful.

CARPENTERS

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes to fill our carpenter positions for the ‘17-’18 season. We are looking for individuals who are detail oriented, able to provide basic hand tools and are able to be called on for various shop hours or load in dates for our show builds.

Qualified Candidates should posses;

  • general carpentry skills
  • a willingness to give attention to the details
  • a positive attitude
  • proficiency in carpentry
  • welding skills preferred though not necessary
  • an ability to assist load-in and strike of set and scenic pieces
  • must be able to lift 75 lbs and be comfortable working at heights

ELECTRICIANS

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes to fill our electrician positions for the ‘17-’18 season. We are looking for individuals who are detail oriented and are able to be called on for various load in and focus dates for our shows.

Electrician qualifications:

  • Assist Master Electrician with hang, circuit and focus of lighting equipment
  • Ability to understand and interpret a lighting plot
  • Comfortable working on ladders and at heights
  • Experience with lighting control consoles a plus
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

STAGE MANAGEMENT INTERNS

We’re always looking for Stage Management Interns. Interns will assist the production stage manager for the duration of the rehearsal process as well as the run of the show. Interns will interact with directors, designers, as well as members of the administrative staff. In addition, interns will learn the skills necessary to maintain day-to-day operation of the technical departments of the theater. Interns must have a strong, varied background of technical theater and experience in stage management. AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Job Description

Job Summary
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Chay Yew and Managing Director Erica Daniels, Victory Gardens Theater is dedicated to artistic excellence while creating a vital, contemporary American Theater that is accessible and relevant to all people through quality productions of challenging new plays and musicals. Victory Gardens is a leader in developing and producing new theatre work and cultivating an inclusive theater community. The theater’s core strengths are nurturing and producing dynamic and inspiring new plays, reflecting the diversity of our city’s and nation’s culture through engaging diverse communities, and in partnership with Chicago Public Schools, bringing art and culture to our city’s active student population.

Key Details
The Audience Development Manager reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and is responsible for the development and execution of the theater’s strategic audience development initiatives. This position is responsible for identifying opportunities for audience growth and designing, implementing, and analyzing strategies to attract new theater patrons, as well as, building and maintaining relationships on behalf of the theater.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement all audience development activities – which include, but are not limited to; manage the Audience Development Committee meetings; identify potential partner groups (ERG and non-profits) and organizations within target communities; form and maintain relationships with new communities; identify new audience growth opportunities; and support and advance institutional and production awareness.
  • Develop and coordinate Audience Development focused Public Programs in collaboration with the Director of New Play Development (two per production, as well as BackStage at the Biograph, a production preview event for potential audiences)
  • Represent organization at networking and social events at the theater and in the community
  • Identify opportunities for, and, execute theater promotion at festivals and events
    throughout the city
  • Participate in AfterWords Post-show Conversations, develop new partnerships for Access performances, and create a college ambassadorship program
  • Create and execute strategies to reach production based group sales income goals
  • Organize and host pre and post-show receptions for group sales
  • Collect data, analyze, and report on all audience activities

Qualifications and Skills

  • Three to five years previous career experience in audience development or related field
