AUDITIONS

Victory Gardens holds general auditions for both Equity and non-equity members each year.

EQUITY ACTORS (MEMBERS OF ACTORS’ EQUITY ASSOCIATION)

Equity auditions are held each Spring. Once Equity auditions are announced, appointments can be made appointments directly through the Chicago Equity office. Victory Gardens does not schedule appointments. For more information contact the Chicago AEA office.

NON-EQUITY ACTORS

Non-AEA Generals are held each Spring. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. If we are interested in seeing you for generals we will reach out directly.

Headshots and resumes are accepted on a rolling basis. Please submit via email, casting@victorygardens.org, file title must contain your full name. Headshots/resumes are also accepted via mail.

OUT-OF-TOWN ACTORS

Victory Gardens is interested in auditioning actors who plan to relocate to Chicago in the near future. Our mission is to provide jobs for Chicago theater artists. If you are an Equity actor visiting from out of town and are planning on relocating, you are welcome to request an audition appointment by e-mail or inquiry letter. Auditions are scheduled on a time-available basis.

PLAY SUBMISSIONS

Victory Gardens Theater accepts full-length scripts year-round from literary agents and theater professionals with whom we have an existing professional relationship. Mailed copies of scripts are welcomed, though we encourage electronic pdf or word doc submissions if at all possible. A member of the Literary department will respond to submissions once they have been read and processed.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes for Production Assistants for our current season. We are looking for incredibly motivated individuals to join our team. Employment would typically begin at tech for our first production and continue on a show to show basis. This position is paid hourly and performances are typically Wednesday through Sunday. A detailed Schedule will be provided upon request.

 

Production Assistant Requirements:

  • Stage management experience essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and even temperament.
  • Creating and maintaining proper backstage paperwork.
  • Multi-tasking in a fast paced environment.
  • Storing props and wardrobe and resetting scenery properly after each performance.
  • Participating in a light duty strike after the closing of the show.
  • Working with Stage Management on any other required tasks.

WARDROBE PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes for Production Assistants for our current season. We are looking for incredibly motivated individuals to join our team. Employment would typically begin at tech for our first production and continue on a show to show basis. This position is paid hourly and performances are typically Wednesday through Sunday. CARPENTERS

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes to fill our carpenter positions for the ‘17-’18 season. We are looking for individuals who are detail oriented, able to provide basic hand tools and are able to be called on for various shop hours or load in dates for our show builds.

Qualified Candidates should posses;

  • general carpentry skills
  • a willingness to give attention to the details
  • a positive attitude
  • proficiency in carpentry
  • welding skills preferred though not necessary
  • an ability to assist load-in and strike of set and scenic pieces
  • must be able to lift 75 lbs and be comfortable working at heights

ELECTRICIANS

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes to fill our electrician positions for the ‘17-’18 season. We are looking for individuals who are detail oriented and are able to be called on for various load in and focus dates for our shows.

Electrician qualifications:

  • Assist Master Electrician with hang, circuit and focus of lighting equipment
  • Ability to understand and interpret a lighting plot
  • Comfortable working on ladders and at heights
  • Experience with lighting control consoles a plus
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

STAGE MANAGEMENT INTERNS

We’re always looking for Stage Management Interns. Interns will assist the production stage manager for the duration of the rehearsal process as well as the run of the show. Interns will interact with directors, designers, as well as members of the administrative staff. In addition, interns will learn the skills necessary to maintain day-to-day operation of the technical departments of the theater. Interns must have a strong, varied background of technical theater and experience in stage management. AUDIENCE SERVICES & BAR COORDINATOR

Part-Time
Requires Evening and Weekend Flexibility

You are a candidate who is ready to take the next step in your arts career and develop your managerial, administrative, and leadership skills in a supportive team-focused environment. You’re not afraid to work hard, and work alongside the employees you manage to make sure the job gets done correctly and the patron has a great experience. You’re ready to take on the increased responsibility (and accountability) that comes with this kind of work, and you believe that open, honest, feedback is critical to team success. In addition to helping manage our Audience Services team, you will also be responsible for the ordering and upkeep of bar and concessions inventory, so being detail-oriented and feeling comfortable tracking data and using spreadsheets is a must.

Key details:
This position is part-time (20-29 hours per week) and functions both as a team contributor and a manager to the Audience Services team. The position requires evening and weekend availability (with some weekdays). Scheduling is flexible, but as this is a managerial position, business needs are expected to take first priority over outside engagements.

Must haves:

  • An ability to manage a team of 8-10 Audience Services Associates and work alongside them
  • Experience working in a Box Office and/or equivalent patron-facing position
  • Experience delivering and receiving feedback
  • Strong sense of accountability and responsibility – a desire to take ownership of company goals/initiatives and see them executed
  • Excellent phone skills with a friendly and supportive personality (both on the phone and off)
  • Endless optimism and a love for the arts, especially for the value of new work
  • Strong sense of ethics, and doing whats right for the patron
  • Proven ability to navigate Microsoft Office suite and Google web apps.

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Arts administration experience
  • Managerial experience
