AUDITIONS

Victory Gardens holds general auditions for both Equity and non-equity members each year.

EQUITY ACTORS (MEMBERS OF ACTORS’ EQUITY ASSOCIATION)

Equity auditions are held each Spring. Once Equity auditions are announced, appointments can be made appointments directly through the Chicago Equity office. Victory Gardens does not schedule appointments. For more information contact the Chicago AEA office.

NON-EQUITY ACTORS

Non-AEA Generals are held each Spring. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. If we are interested in seeing you for generals we will reach out directly.

Headshots and resumes are accepted on a rolling basis. Please submit via email, casting@victorygardens.org, file title must contain your full name. Headshots/resumes are also accepted via mail.

OUT-OF-TOWN ACTORS

Victory Gardens is interested in auditioning actors who plan to relocate to Chicago in the near future. Our mission is to provide jobs for Chicago theater artists. If you are an Equity actor visiting from out of town and are planning on relocating, you are welcome to request an audition appointment by e-mail or inquiry letter. Auditions are scheduled on a time-available basis.

PLAY SUBMISSIONS

Victory Gardens Theater accepts full-length scripts year-round from literary agents and theater professionals with whom we have an existing professional relationship. Mailed copies of scripts are welcomed, though we encourage electronic pdf or word doc submissions if at all possible. A member of the Literary department will respond to submissions once they have been read and processed.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes for Production Assistants for our current season. We are looking for incredibly motivated individuals to join our team. Employment would typically begin at tech for our first production and continue on a show to show basis. This position is paid hourly and performances are typically Wednesday through Sunday. A detailed Schedule will be provided upon request.

Native Gardens

Production Assistant Requirements:

  • Stage management experience essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and even temperament.
  • Creating and maintaining proper backstage paperwork.
  • Multi-tasking in a fast paced environment.
  • Storing props and wardrobe and resetting scenery properly after each performance.
  • Participating in a light duty strike after the closing of the show.
  • Working with Stage Management on any other required tasks.

WARDROBE PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes for Production Assistants for our current season. We are looking for incredibly motivated individuals to join our team. CARPENTERS

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes to fill our carpenter positions for the ‘16-’17 season. We are looking for individuals who are detail oriented, able to provide basic hand tools and are able to be called on for various shop hours or load in dates for our show builds. The dates for the first show are 8/17 through 9/17.

Qualified Candidates should posses;

  • general carpentry skills
  • a willingness to give attention to the details
  • a positive attitude
  • proficiency in carpentry
  • welding skills preferred though not necessary
  • an ability to assist load-in and strike of set and scenic pieces
  • must be able to lift 75 lbs and be comfortable working at heights

ELECTRICIANS

Victory Gardens is seeking resumes to fill our electrician positions for the ‘15-’16 season. We are looking for individuals who are detail oriented and are able to be called on for various load in and focus dates for our shows.

Electrician qualifications:

  • Assist Master Electrician with hang, circuit and focus of lighting equipment
  • Ability to understand and interpret a lighting plot
  • Comfortable working on ladders and at heights
  • Experience with lighting control consoles a plus
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

STAGE MANAGEMENT INTERNS

We’re always looking for Stage Management Interns. Interns will assist the production stage manager for the duration of the rehearsal process as well as the run of the show. Interns will interact with directors, designers, as well as members of the administrative staff. In addition, interns will learn the skills necessary to maintain day-to-day operation of the technical departments of the theater. Interns must have a strong, varied background of technical theater and experience in stage management. DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

Victory Gardens Theater is seeking a Development Associate to work with the Development Team and Managing Director to coordinate the theater’s Development efforts. The Development Associate will oversee the planning of all special events and donor cultivation events, as well as run the Annual Fund Program and support Managing Director in Board work and Major Gifts Program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and organize Development events including the Annual Gala (Fall), Spring Fundraiser, donor cultivation events, and Opening Nights. Specific tasks include: supporting event committees, soliciting in-kind donations and auction prizes, managing invitation and guest lists, overseeing all event logistics, maintaining income and expense budgets, developing talking points for event co-chairs and staff, and managing event follow up
  • Run Annual Fund Campaign- Prepare donor lists for at least four fundraising campaigns annually (Spring & Fall appeals, Gala, and Spring fundraiser)
  • Donor tracking, setting individual donor strategies and conducting research, personal solicitations including drafting solicitation and other correspondence
  • Manage Gift Processing and Acknowledgement Letters
  • Administer fulfillment of certain donor benefits
  • Update Fundraising database with current patron contact information
  • Create/update office systems to map out grant deadlines, track current proposals, archive all grants written and organize all supplementary materials needed for proposals
  • Manage Development portion of Website
  • Attend Board and Committee Meetings and record and prepare official meeting minutes
  • Collaborate with other departments (Box Office, Marketing, Artistic, Education) as appropriate to ensure consistent organizational messaging and accuracy and to obtain input and involvement
  • Liaise with Audience Services to ensure that the appropriate levels of service are provided to donors
  • Work closely with the Development Staff as part of an effective, cohesive fundraising team. Support the work of the Director of Development, Managing Director and Artistic Director as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three or more years experience in development for not-for- profits. Experience with individual solicitations, fundraising events, and donor relations preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software required; experience with fundraising software a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and diligent attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to high quality of work
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously and effectively
  • Interest in theatre/performing arts preferred and available to work events and performances on nights and weekends
