Victory Gardens Theater Community Engagement Mission Statement
Our Community Engagement program exists to promote cultural equity in Chicago through connections to the Victory Gardens brand of theater, which drives civic dialogue and highlights social issues impacting Chicago and the wider world.

We accomplish this by:

  • Inviting audiences to become a lasting part of the Victory Gardens Theater community via our plays, public programs and community events
  • Collaborating with a Council of Community Leaders to create meaningful connections throughout Chicago
  • Sustaining inclusion of all community members via our access programming and services
  • Co-creating pop up events featuring Marcus Gardley’s “The Gospel of Loving Kindness” in Chicago neighborhoods including Englewood, Pilsen, Beverly, and Austin
  • Providing space for community members to organize forums, town halls, and issue-based response productions, such as “We Must Breathe”
  • Showing up for important artistic and civic dialogues and events in Chicago
  • Supporting the efforts of the JDef Peace Project and iGrow Chicago Peace House in using the arts to offset the violence impacting the Pilsen and Englewood communities
